Symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease

Mental Activities
  • Difficulty learning and remembering new information
  • Can't remember past career, names of friends, places visited
  • Continually repeats stories and jokes
  • Makes up stories to fill gaps
  • Forgets manners, exhibits poor judgment
  • Difficulty managing finances, planning meals
  • Difficulty taking medications on schedule
  • Doesn't recognize family or faces of friends

Physical Activities
  • Still able to do most activities including driving a car
  • Has difficulty carrying on a conversation
  • In a group, tends to keep quiet, can't follow topics
  • Change in appearance or hygiene
  • Change in sleeping patterns
  • Has difficulty with basic things like eating, going to the toilet, walking
  • Gets lost going to familiar places

Behaviour
  • May mumble or speak gibberish
  • Inappropriately cries out
  • Exhibits constant restlessness
  • Depression
  • Refuses to eat
  • Has paranoia, delusions, hallucinations
  • Wanders aimlessly
  • Is irritable
  • Is apathetic, indifferent
  • Gets easily agitated
